Torque Performance Enhancement of Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet Machines With Dual Sets of Magnet Arrangements

Torque performance, especially torque density, is a critical performance index for the flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine that attractive propulsion system. In this article, novel FSPM with dual sets of arrangements proposed. With topology, density proposed significantly improved due to much increased working harmonic contents magnetomotive force (MMF). Moreover, cogging also inherently reduced, which makes promising candidate in family. The operating principle revealed based on MMF–permeance model and numerical finite element analysis (FEA). effect geometric parameters, such as thickness, auxiliary tooth width, rotor width average torque, investigated. Finally, prototype has been manufactured validate conclusion. experimental test results, it demonstrated topology can achieve 30.8% higher 79.4% lower 15.6% power factor than conventional counterpart.
